What Jim Carrey Taught Me About Art
...and more importantly, life itself.
Fun Fact: when I was 13 years old, I was in a deleted scene of “Bruce Almighty.”
I played Bakery Teen #2.
In this particular scene, I had to verbally insult Jim Carrey, or '‘Bruce” to his face, and then he would proceed to give me the middle finger…
We did at least a dozen takes, all of which were completely improvised and hilarious.
It was his unabashed nature, his willingness to try and fail, combined with knowledge and control of his own comedic skills… that allowed him to so freely explore his creative process in front of an entire cast and crew… and the entire world.
At the time, it was also the closest I’ve ever been to watching a creative genius at work. Honestly, it still might be…
Plus it made the bonus scenes on DVD! :)

Jim: “Hey Kid, don’t forget your free balloon.” (Jim proceeds to “blow up” his middle finger at me!)
BUT NOW…
In a somewhat unpredictable turn of events, Jim Carrey turned mystic. I’m here for it.
As I’ve followed his career, and have gone down a spiritual path myself, I’ve realized that Jim Carrey has truly become a living testament to how it all works.
As in, the universe…
“A Man of Festation”
In interviews, Carrey has told stories from the early days of his career, where he would stand on Mulholland Drive overlooking the city of LA and shout out loud:
“I am an amazing actor. Everybody wants to work with me. I have many movie offers…”
He even wrote his future self a $10 million check, which he would eventually cash after starring in a legendary string of ‘90s smash hit comedies - culminating in an offer for that exact $ amount for the film, "The Mask."
For years, Carrey went through a phase where his mind was working for him, and he was quite literally manifesting things into existence, as if he already had them…
He was still doing the work, harder than almost anybody in the comedy space, but it was this specific mental approach that took him to the next level…
*FYI: I will talk so much more about manifestation, Backwards Law, and even String Theory as it relates to pop culture… but let’s continue with Jim and his universe…
THE REVELATION
Like many stories in Hollywood, Jim Carrey started receiving more money, fame, temptations, and was ultimately consumed by everything the world had to offer…
Later in life, Carrey gave a haunting quote that I still think about daily:
“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer.” - Jim Carrey
This is one of the most beloved actors of our generation urging us to look elsewhere… not towards external validation, materialism, and fame… but to look inward…
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Jim Carrey has since stripped away his identity to the core.
In many of his recent pictures, interviews, appearances, and movie cameos, he boasts a long beard and a huge smile. He looks happy...
And it made me happy to know that someone has brought so much happiness to others and is finally finding some inner peace. Let it be an inspiration to us all.
It certainly has been for me. I think about Jim Carrey and his transformation often. I motivate myself to write about things I want to write about… and if it connects or resonates with anybody out there… to me, that's a bonus...
Because in my mind, like Jim, I am already successful and have everything I could ever want and need… which, also according to Jim, is nothing.
So if I ever see Jim again in this life or another, I will thank him.
And then I will flip him off.
Thanks for reading!

P.S. I couldn't tell which Jim Carrey quote to end this newsletter with, so here's a few:
“B-E-A-utiful!”
“Allllriiiiightyyyyy then!”
“In case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!”
